The Los Angeles police sergeant Jody Stiger, a use-of-force expert, told jurors at the trial of former officer Derek Chauvin: ‘My opinion was that the force was excessive,’ referring to Chauvin’s restraint of George Floyd. The incident led to widespread protests across the United States.
