7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Foot and mouth disease outbreak in Indonesia, NSW farmers call for stronger biosecurity | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
Gloucester dairy farmer Graham Forbes is calling for a stronger biosecurity strategy to help protect New South Wales from the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Indonesia, saying that people are unaware of the consequences.
“One it gets in, we’re finished. We don’t want compensation, we want it stopped over there (Indonesia) . We want to support the Indonesians. Whether we’ve got to restrict travel. Whether we’ve got to come in and help them out in a vaccination program with their cattle. We are a huge risk now” – NSW farmer Graham Forbes.
Farmers are also urging travellers from Bali to throw out their thongs before arriving in Sydney, to help stop the highly contagious foot and mouth disease. Australia’s chief vet last week said consideration was being given to the introduction of footbaths for travellers arriving in the country from Indonesia.
