Florida governor issues state of emergency, says 2nd building to be demolished as Elsa nears

Global News published this video item, entitled “Florida governor issues state of emergency, says 2nd building to be demolished as Elsa nears” – below is their description.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency on Saturday as the state braces for Tropical Storm Elsa, which he said was expected to “begin affecting the South Florida Keys and portions of the South Florida peninsula as early as Monday”

DeSantis was speaking from the city of Surfside, Fla., where concerns were raised about the remainder of a collapsed condo building that was “structurally unsound” and “tottering,” as rescue crews continue to search through the wreckage.

Twenty-two people have been confirmed dead and 126 are still missing following the disaster in Surfside, Fla., more than a week ago.

DeSantis said plans have been made to bring down the rest of the building Sunday, adding if it were left standing amid the powerful winds expected from Tropical Storm Elsa it would be a “hazard” and could prevent emergency crews from continuing their work.
