On November 2, 2021, a British government statement revealed that more than 100 world leaders at COP26 will commit to ending and reversing deforestation by 2030. COP26 is shorthand for this year’s UN Climate Change Conference currently under way in Glasgow. The 100 countries making the pledge include Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, representing over 85 per cent of the planet’s forests. The apparent breakthrough is seen as the first substantial deal announced at the international summit.
