One person has died and injured residents have been evacuated due to a fire at a unit block in Brisbane’s inner north. Emergency services were called to the complex on Bonney Ave at Clayfield about 5am on Monday.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services incident controller Ricky May told Sunrise paramedics arrived at the unit within seven minutes.
“On arrival there were multiple people that were unaccounted for,” he said.
“Over the course of the next 15 to 20 minutes, over 12 people were evacuated from the building, and unfortunately one person was confirmed deceased.”
He said the fire appears to have started in the “lift shaft area of the building”.
A crime scene has been declared.
