The #Greenspring Retirement Community, a high-end senior care facility, is hidden deep in the Virginia woodland. Yet a curious incident three years ago has placed it firmly in the spotlight. An unknown respiratory illness outbreak happened in July 2019, while patients’ symptoms included fever, cough, body ache, wheezing, and general weakness, according to ABC News. The disease sickened dozens of residents and killed at least two people at the community in Springfield. An expert said that it was less likely for a respiratory disease outbreak to happen in July than in the winter. One month later, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shut down the biological warfare research center, better known as #FortDetrick, for unspecified “national security reasons.” Fort Detrick is only one hour’s drive from the Greenspring Retirement Community.
