    Fighting erupted between the Burmese military and a separatist group in the southeast of Myanmar, close to the border with Thailand.

    The ethnic insurgents, the Karen National Union, captured and destroyed an army post as part of their campaign to reduce the military’s presence in Karen state, where thousands of people have been displaced by a resurgence of fighting.
