Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Federal and New South Wales government at odds over energy” – below is their description.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there is a real fight on between the New South Wales government and the federal government over energy policy. Prime Minister Scott Morrison in September said that if energy company AGL did not announce it would build a gas plant in the Hunter Valley by April, the federal government’s Snowy Hydro would build it. AGL “essentially agreed” to build the plant but has since retracted due to legislation brought to the New South Wales parliament by Energy Minister Matt Kean, Mr Clennell said. Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor said he was not consulted by Mr Kean before the legislation was introduced. The federal government says the legislation effectively creates a renewable energy target for New South Wales and has led to several energy companies saying this week they’ll put the brakes on key gas fired power station projects. “Energy companies are contacting the federal government expressing anger at how there is New South Wales government intervention meaning there will be more of a focus on renewables and their proposed investments are not secure,” Mr Clennell said.
