President Donald Trump is looking to get his campaign back on track Friday, a week after he was sidelined by the coronavirus that has killed more than 210,000 Americans. Trump insists he is ready to resume campaign rallies and feels “perfect” one week after his diagnosis with the coronavirus that has killed more than 210,000 Americans. Trump’s doctor says the president has completed his course of therapy for the disease and is cleared to begin public events as of Saturday. While that timeline may seem optimistic to some, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said in an Associated Press interview Friday that Trump “would be within the recommended timeframe of the CDC.” The guideline, according to Fauci, “generally is 10 days from the onset of your symptoms.” He says ten days for Trump would be Saturday. The CDC guidelines also call for two negative tests, 24 hours apart. Trump has not been seen in public – other than in White House-produced videos – since his Monday return from the military hospital where he received experimental treatments for the virus. Asked by the Associated Press whether he would be comfortable with a rally and also an in-person presidential debate as was originally planned for next week, Fauci said he’d “be comfortable if (Trump) went through the CDC criteria of being non infective, that then I would feel OK. But he would have to fulfill the criteria of the CDC of being non infective.” While not specifially referring to the president’s recent comments about COVID, Fauci urged Americans not to “trivialize this disease.” “This is a serious disease, it’s killed 210-thousand Americans, infected more than more than 7 million others and killed a million people worldwide. So it’s not something that you should take lightly,” he said. Fauci also warned about a rise in infections and deaths as the fall and winter months approach and people are less able to congregate outside.
