Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen warned Tuesday that the ‘metaverse,’ the virtual reality world at the heart of the social media giant’s growth strategy, will be addictive, rob people of more personal info and give the company another monopoly online. In an interview with The Associated Press, Haugen said her former employer rushed to trumpet the metaverse recently because of the intense pressure it is facing after she revealed deep-seated problems at the company, in disclosures that have energized legislative and regulatory efforts around the world to crack down on Big Tech.
