Exclusive: Fighters encircle IS stronghold – BBC News

The BBC’s Feras Kilani gets exclusive access to the Syrian town of Manbij, where an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters are fighting to drive out the so-called Islamic State (IS). The Syrian Defence Forces (SDF) encircled the northern city last month, trapping thousands of civilians, and fighting is taking place street by street.
US Defence Secretary Ash Carter says the international coalition against IS has momentum on its side, and that it was setting the stage to oust IS from the last major cities it holds.
