Catalonia’s former leader Carles Puigdemont has been released from Italian detention.

He was taken into custody by police in Sardinia on Thursday.

Spain charged Puigdemont with sedition for a 2017 independence referendum which was deemed illegal by its courts.

Al Jazeera’s Adam Raney reports from the Sardinian city of Sassari, despite being freed, his court battle is not over yet.
