European wildfires: Worst heatwave in decades fuels numerous blazes

Global News published this video item, entitled “European wildfires: Worst heatwave in decades fuels numerous blazes” – below is their description.

Helicopters worked to douse the flames of a massive wildfire just outside of Athens, Greece on Tuesday – a fire fuelled by one of the worst heatwaves in decades.

Ten aircraft and more than 300 firefighters battled the blaze as people fled their homes, and dozens of children were evacuated from a summer camp as well.

In neighbouring southern Turkey, the situation is critical. Several fires were still active on Tuesday, fanned by strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity.

At least eight people in Turkey have been killed so far due to the wildfires.

Global’s Ross Hull explains.
