The European Police College will move from Bramshill in the United Kingdom to a new base in Budapest, Hungary. The announcement was made by the Council of the European Union on 6th May 2014.
The transfer follows notice from the United Kingdom that it could no longer host the agency, which was established in 2005 to bring together senior police officers from around Europe.
Originally, the UK intended to cease hosting the agency from March 2014, but the lease has been extended until September 2014 to allow for the practicalities of the relocation.
Budapest was chosen ahead of proposed locations in Ireland, Greece, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Finland.
CEPOL works to encourage cross-border co-operation on crime, security and law by organising training and pooling research findings.
