European countries clamp down on Omicron variant

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “European countries clamp down on Omicron variant” – below is their description.

In the Netherlands, health officials have confirmed the Omicron strain of COVID-19 among 13 passengers from South Africa.

They were on board two passenger flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg with nearly 600 people on board that landed on Friday.

More countries are imposing travel bans and restrictions to keep the new variant from their borders.

And while nations are focusing on southern Africa – where the strain was first reported,

anger is growing about the travel bans. South Africa, in particular, says it is being unfairly targeted for sharing data about the variant.

Al Jazeera’s Neave Barker has more on the situation across Europe.
