Hundreds of thousands of people have demonstrated in several Ethiopian cities in support of government forces battling a rebel advance. The largest demonstration was held in the capital, Addis Ababa.

Concern is growing after the year-long conflict against Tigrayan rebels intensified.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has captured strategic towns along the road to the capital and has threatened to move on Addis Ababa.
