Ethiopia: Protesters killed in Irrecha stampede

Scores of people are reported to have died in a stampede in Ethiopia, after anti-government protesters were crushed trying to flee police.

The opposition says at least 50 people were killed, but some reports suggest more than 100 people could have died.

It happened at the Irrecha festival, a religious festival in the Oromia region, a place which has seen increased violence between demonstraters and police over the last two years.

Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports.
