ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Entrepreneurs set sail to teach Queensland seafaring past on 75-year-old tall ship | ABC News” – below is their description.
The warm, clear waters of tropical Far North Queensland could not feel further from the turbulent Bass Strait where the Derwent Hunter started life 75 years ago.
Built the year after World War II, the ship set sail as a fishing boat before it was sold to the CSIRO for research.
After a decade spent chasing whales and plankton across New Caledonia and Antarctica, the 27-metre sailing ship moved into show business, with a starring role as the Pacific Lady in the 1970s series The Rovers.
More recently, it worked as a tour boat in the Whitsundays, but, in less than a fortnight, the ship is embarking on a new journey enabling cultural education.
