Empowering women: Zimbabwe’s all-female mine provides work

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Empowering women: Zimbabwe’s all-female mine provides work” – below is their description.

Mining is usually a male-dominated industry.

But Zimbaqua mine, located in a rural area in northern Zimbabwe, is the first of its kind in Africa to employ entirely a female workforce to dig up precious blue aquamarine gemstones.

Its focus is on sustainable mining and empowering women in the region, most of them unemployed.

Al Jazeera’s Haru Mutasa reports from Hurungwe, Zimbabwe.
