ITV News published this video item, entitled “Electoral Commission investigation into Boris Johnson’s Downing Street flat refurbishment | ITV News” – below is their description.
In anyone’s book, £58,000 is a heck of a lot of money and it could end up costing the Prime Minister dear.
Parliament’s spending watchdog, the Electoral Commission, today launched an investigation into where the money to pay for the now infamous Downing Street flat upgrade originally came from.
There were, it said, grounds to suspect an offence may have occurred.
In a hot tempered Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Johnson insisted he had not broken any laws.
Three times he said he’d paid for the work personally. He would not say who settled the initial bill.
In the meantime, he had appointed the Queen’s former Private Secretary Lord Geidt as his new independent adviser on standards, a man generally admired for his integrity and certainly no push over – which could make it an interesting appointment, and possibly one Downing Street comes to regret.
