When Sherry and Luke Heise first visited Tasmania from Sydney, they felt an instant connection to Australia’s smallest state.

The couple and their two young daughters left their friends and family behind and bought a house in Hobart, arriving just two weeks after the first confirmed coronavirus case in Tasmania.

The Heises are among a cohort of new residents voting in a Tasmanian election for the first time, amid continuing strong population growth.
