Edmea is adopted into an aristocratic family and falls in love with the son Oberto. She is forced by her adoptive father to marry the servant Ulmo. She goes insane at the loss of Oberto. Edmea and Oberto are finally reunited. Ulmo makes the ultimate sacrifice, shooting himself. Oberto and Edmea celebrate their marriage. Edmea, with music by Alfredo Catalani to a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. was first performed on 27 February 1886, Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
