Police failed in their duty of care to Alo Ngata – this is the report out now by the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
29-year old Alo died in 2018 after he was tasered, pepper-sprayed, tied up and put in a spit hood by Police. The IPCA found serious failings by Police, stating the spit hood was put on incorrectly, and wrongly left on. The IPCA also criticises the Police’s supervision of Alo, saying there was an “unacceptable” delay by officers in delivering necessary medical treatment.
In this exclusive, SUNDAY speaks to the IPCA and to Alo’s mother, Alofa, who wants the Police held to account for her son’s death.
