Dutch election: Clash of democracy

It’s been branded a bellwether election. The Dutch pick a parliament this Wednesday and even before a row with Turkey started escalating, the rest of Europe was already wondering just how much the far-right’s Geert Wilders would drive the agenda of the campaign. It may not be the only issue, but identity is one key issue. How has one of Europe’s most open societies handled successive waves of immigration? What does it mean to be Dutch in 2017?
