Dueling protests on steps of US Supreme Court as justices take up abortion question

Global News published this video item, entitled “Dueling protests on steps of US Supreme Court as justices take up abortion question” – below is their description.

Protesters on both sides of the abortion debate flocked to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, as justices on the nation’s top court heard arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a challenge to the landmark abortion rights decision Roe v. Wade.

Julie Rikelman, litigation director for the Center for Reproductive Rights said she believed her team tried to emphasize how important the right to an abortion is for women’s equality. She said she believed the Supreme Court “heard us on that argument.”

Meanwhile, Mississippi Attorney general Lynn Fitch told protesters “society has changed” since Roe v. Wade was decided.

Mississippi had asked the court to consider the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade and the viability standard after it’s 2018 law banning abortion after 15 weeks was struck down in federal court.
