The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is reinstalling loudspeakers to broadcast propaganda near the Demilitarized Zone. The loudspeakers were taken down in 2018 after the two sides signed an accord to cease “all hostile acts.” ROK’s defense ministry declined to confirm the DPRK’s moves, but said Pyongyang will “have to pay for the consequences” if it shuns efforts to restore peace. Pyongyang has called off dialogue with Seoul and destroyed an inter-Korean liaison office in protest over anti-Pyongyang leaflets dropped over the DPRK.
