A cargo ship with 43 crew members and nearly 6,000 head of cattle on board is believed to have sunk on September 2, 2020, in an area hit by Typhoon Maysak. Sailors on the vessel had issued a distress call from an area west of Amami Oshima, an island in southwestern Japan. At least one crew member has been rescued.
