Global News published this video item, entitled “Donald Trump becomes 1st US president to be impeached twice” – below is their description.
U.S. House Democrats were joined by 10 Republicans on Wednesday in voting to impeach President Donald Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” marking the second time Trump has been impeached. He is the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice.
The impeachment charge comes one week after a violent mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building as lawmakers were certifying president-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 election win. Five people died during the riot.
Democrats and some Republicans criticized Trump’s silence during the riot, and accused him of inciting the violence with his rhetoric on unsubstantiated claims of widespread election fraud, as well as a speech he gave just prior to the riot that occurred in which he reiterated those claims.
Jennifer Johnson explains what happens next.
