Dominic Raab confirms 250,000 is next test target but fails to budge on exit strategy in PMQs

The Government will be targeting 250,000 daily tests as part of a move towards the second phase of its coronavirus response plan, Dominic Raab confirmed during PMQs today.

The First Secretary refused to budge on publishing an exit strategy, telling Labour leader Keir Starmer he could not do so until Sage had updated its advice ahead of the next review on 7 May.

But he confirmed the stretch target to carry out a quarter of a million tests a day remained an “aspiration”, with the deadline for the 100,000 target due tomorrow.
