A shark attacked a dolphin at Manly’s Shelly Beach today, causing the beach to be closed to swimmers while the ordeal plate out.
It’s understood a three metre bull shark was spotted close to the shoreline during the incident. The shark is then believed to have attacked a dolphin that was swimming amongst swimmers.
The dolphin was then pulled ashore by emergency service crews, before it passed away.
A surf lifesaving carnival at Manly beach was postponed also. The dolphin will now be taken to Sydney’s Taronga Zoo for further testing.
Marine biologist David Baxter says the dolphin may have been sick, and old, and was near its ‘time to die.’
