CBC News published this video item, entitled “Doctors worry about how the pandemic has delayed cancer diagnosis” – below is their description.
In a January 2021 report, the Quebec government estimated that more than 4,000 people with cancer went undiagnosed due to a drop in screening programs. Dr. Gerald Batist from the Segal Cancer Centre says the pandemic has forced or intimated patients to delay their treatment and more resources are needed as quickly as possible to deal with the increased number of patients whose cancer has gotten much worse. Diane Van Keulen says her tumour had tripled in size after she didn’t go to the emergency room when her symptoms worsened.
