Disinformation in the Kenyan election | Listening Post

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Disinformation in the Kenyan election | Listening Post” – below is their description.

Kenya is in election mode and two familiar faces are vying to become the next president: current Deputy President, William Ruto and Raila Odinga, the popular opposition figure.

As the race has heated up, so too has the propaganda. With millions of Kenyans online consuming election news, social media is a key tool for politicians to attract voters and attack their opponents.

Behind some of the viral content is an open secret: politicians are paying influencers, and small armies of bloggers, to propel the violent propaganda.

The Listening Post’s Ryan Kohls reports on the shadowy world of influencers for hire and how misinformation is running rampant in the 2022 Kenyan elections.
