New South Wales has recorded 291 new COVID cases in a 24-hour period – the state’s highest daily increase since the pandemic began. Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned ‘we are likely to see this trend continue for the next few days’. The infections, recorded in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday from more than 110,000 tests, are up from 262 cases on Thursday.

At least 96 were circulating in the community for all or part of their infectious period. The isolation status of 104 cases remains under investigation.

The state also recorded one further life lost, a woman in her 60s from southwest Sydney who died at Liverpool Hospital. She was unvaccinated.
