“Black Lives Matter” protests have erupted across the United States. The demonstrations came after an unarmed black man, identified as George Floyd, died in police custody on Monday in Minneapolis. Protesters assembled in more than 30 U.S. cities, chanting “Black lives matter” and “I can’t breathe” a rallying cry echoing Floyd’s dying words, as a white police officer knelt on his neck. At least eight states and the District of Columbia have either activated or requested the National Guard to assist in handling the protests.
