Demands for embattled former MP be stripped of parliament committee roles amid ICAC charges | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Demands for embattled former MP be stripped of parliament committee roles amid ICAC charges | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

South Australia Labor is calling for former Liberal MP Fraser Ellis to be dumped from parliamentary committees pending his criminal trial over a string of fraud and deception charges.

“When a member of parliament is charged with a significant crime, there is clearly a necessity for the premier to act and what we’ve seen here is Steven Marshall yet again take a back seat instead of showing strong leadership about the standards that need to be set. It doesn’t seem appropriate that Steven Marshall would actively facilitate Mr Ellis remaining on really important parliament committees while he’s facing significant charges of crime,” – Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas.

Mr Ellis told state parliament just after 2am during a marathon late-night sitting, that he has been charged and has suspended his membership of the party while he is under investigation by ICAC – leaving the Liberal government holding only 23 seats in the 47 seat parliament.
