Death Penalty: Should the UK bring it back?

This week it was confirmed that the double child killer Colin Pitchfork had been released from prison. Pitchfork had pleaded guilty to both murders and was given a life sentence in January 1988, is it time the UK reconsidered the death penalty?

  1. The lawyer’s argument is a exercise in poor logic. He commits one logical fallacy after another. First, he conflates the issue of the death penalty with instances of miscarriages of justice. Next, then he says that murder is never right — thus conflating murder and capital punishment. Finally, he says threats of judicial punishment does not deter criminals from committing crime. Says who? How does the lawyer propose to measure an act which was prevented from occuring? This lawyer is an p!n head. No one needs to listen to a word this muddle headed door knob has to say.

  2. Absolutely not.

It is not a deterrent to murder.

Bringing back the death penalty may make it legal to kill another in the name of state following a trial and conviction. However, it will always be morally wrong to kill.

Innocents could be killed in a horrendous miscarriage of justice – it has happened in the past, it would happen in the future, even with modern DNA technology – mistakes will always happen.
