Gunmen opened fire on a gathering of dignitaries in the Afghan capital of Kabul, with ISIL claiming responsibility for the attack.

Just days after the signing of an ambitious peace deal with the Taliban, the violence caps a week of bloodshed, with lasting peace in the region seeming increasingly distant.
