Days of heavy rainfall have caused widespread flooding in parts of Bangladesh and India, stranding millions of people and taking at least 60 lives as of May 22, 2022. Residents in the affected areas have lost homes and farmers have seen their crops destroyed. Floods are common in many parts of Bangladesh and India, but climate experts say global warming has increased the likelihood of such extreme weather events.
