De-radicalisation programme trialled in French prisons

A deradicalisation programme is being tested in France, where 70 percent of the prison population is estimated to be Muslim.

However, the trial – which in part cordons off inmates considered to hold ‘radical’ views – has drawn some criticism.

One prison guard unionist told Al Jazeera: “We fear that they form a hard stone … I feel that what we’re doing this in Fresnes may spread ideologies.”
