At least 77 people have died in Nepal where several days of heavy rain has caused landslides and flash flooding. Local authorities said most of the deaths occurred in the country’s eastern and western regions. While landslides are a regular occurrence in the Himalayan region, environment experts said such natural disasters are becoming more common because of climate change and human activity such as deforestation and dam building.
