7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Davidson High School banned mobile phones, it produced dramatic behavioural results | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
Students at Davidson High School are forming stronger friendships and have a better understanding of each other after parents voted for mobile phones to be locked away at the start of each school day, says the school principal.
Three months ago, 900 students began to lock their mobile phones into secure pouches as they walked through the school gate. The phones remain locked until the end of the day, or unless a teacher requires students to use them for an education session.
Davidson High School Principal David Rule says many students have benefited from the mobile phone ban and lessons are running more smoothly.
“It’s just crazy the difference that we’ve seen…I’m really happy with the positive impact that it’s had” – Principal David Rule.
Year 10 student Annika Hore says more students are playing games in the yard, playing board games and having conversations.
“There’s a difference around the school now (particularly) with some of the kids who found it hard to socialise” – Year 10 student Ashton Ellery.

As a student at Davidson, I can tell you that things aren’t running quite as smoothly as Mr. Rule would have you believe.
David has appeared in front of us during school assemblies and plainly stated that he was aware that students were avoiding using the system. The only thing given was a sharp talking to, and no forms of punishment were issued.
If they even bother to close the bags in the first place, the students have learned that they can be opened with a magnet and little effort. You you do it right, stepping on or pulling on the lock just pops it right open.
When the on-duty teacher turns their back, I as a student see the flashes of phones all across the playground. Simply said, they are now more concerned about keeping it a secret.
This is really a marketing ploy. The goal of the school is to get the support of parents and more pupils, and they care little to enforce there own policies
