David Hearst discusses latest cyberattack targets Qatar’s official media

Qatar says it has been the target of a hostile media campaign by an unknown entity.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s foreign minister, says a four-hour cyberattack targeted official media on Tuesday.

It posted false statements purportedly made by Qatar’s emir about Iran, US President Donald Trump and Israel.

Media outlets linked to fellow Arab Gulf states Saudi Arabia and the UAE went on to report the stories as fact.

The hacking also saw Saudi Arabia and the UAE blocking Qatari media outlets.

David Hearst, a journalist and editor of Middle East Eye, discusses the cyberattack.
