Former England soccer captain David Beckham waited more than 13 hours in line alongside thousands of other mourners to see Queen Elizabeth lying in state at Westminster Hall in London on Friday.

The 47-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder told reporters he joined the line at 2.15 a.m. (0115 GMT) and talked about snacking with his fellow queuers on Pringles, Sherbert Lemons and doughnuts to keep their energy up.

Television footage of Westminster Hall showed Beckham, who met the queen several times during her 70-year reign, looking tearful as he waited to file past her coffin and then bowed his head and closed his eyes momentarily.
