A white former police officer who shot dead a black man in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota after “accidentally” firing her handgun instead of a Taser has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Kimberly Potter shot Daunte Wright in the chest during a traffic stop on Sunday night, setting off days of unrest in a region already on edge with the ongoing murder trial of Derek Chauvin, another former Minnesota police officer.
The development did little to quell the protests that Mr Wright’s killing has triggered, with demonstrators clashing with law enforcement outside the Brooklyn Center Police headquarters for a fourth consecutive night.
