Dairy Commission suggesting rise in Canada’s already high milk prices

Global News published this video item, entitled “Dairy Commission suggesting rise in Canada’s already high milk prices” – below is their description.

Canada’s surging dairy costs are expected to soar even higher in 2022. The Canadian Dairy Commission is proposing record hikes that will give the country’s dairy farmers a bigger payoff.

The Commission’s usual formula initially determined a price increase of 6.4 per cent, according to internal documents obtained by Global News. The previous record increase was 4.5 per cent, but dairy farmers felt they needed more. The Commission ultimately recommended 8.4 per cent, almost double the previous record.

As Eric Sorensen reports, critics say the Crown corporation is giving more weight to producers than consumers when setting prices.
