ITV News published this video item, entitled “Covid: Grieving families in India fight doctors as beds line up inside crowded hospitals | ITV News” – below is their description.
The Covid crisis in India is spreading so quickly that the Red Cross there is telling neighbouring countries they could face a similar situation unless they act now.
It is true India has a population of more than 1.3 billion but 200,000 lives lost there is still 200,000 too many. And of course those are just the ones that have been recorded.
So far less than 2% of its people have had both vaccine doses.
Globally, Nearly 4 million oxygen cylinders a day are required to tackle coronavirus, across low and middle income countries
India’s need alone accounts for over half of that. No wonder – the virus has spread just about everywhere.
The state of Maharashta to the west for example is reporting 670,000 cases and more than 60,000 deaths in total.
Kerala in the far south has over 240,000 cases though fewer deaths at 5,000.
Delhi – where we’ve been filming – has been one of the hardest hit areas with over 15 thousand deaths.
