  1. In full view, Government Policy is being driven by the big corporations, business and profit and not by public interest and health. Fast talking Boris Johnson seeks to back the electorate into a corner asking if not now then effectively when? when the real questions are what is driving this quest to get back to exactly as we were before covid arrived on the scene? Given we have to “learn to live” with some level of the virus why are the Government not simply defining a “new normal” that’s appropriate to that.

Talk about ” personal choice” obscures the fact that many organisations and businesses will now demand a return to the old normal and the average person’s choice will be limited and at worst removed. For many there will be:
NO CHOICE – Whether they return to the office
No CHOICE – Whether they stagger their travel times and avoid rush hour
NO CHOICE- whether they get on a crowded train or tube with no social distancing, no ventilation and no masks
NO CHOICE – Whether they go to work in shops and supermarkets with no protective barriers, PPE or social distancing from or amongst customers

The majority of ordinary people want compulsory, sensible measures to remain in place such as masks in crowded places, social distancing, table service, sensible use of working from home to minimise crowding on our public transport etc. however this would mean a redefining of what’s “enough” profit that industry will not tolerate and the Government are too weak to impose. Where is the opposition in all this?
