South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation Sunday about how his country is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic amid fears over the new Omicron variant.
First discovered in South Africa, the variant has now been detected in Britain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Botswana, Israel, Australia and Hong Kong.
Omicron is potentially more contagious than the previous variants, although experts do not yet know if it will cause more or less severe COVID-19 symptoms.
