Sydney’s COVID-19 Emergency: NSW Health sent this video to 7NEWS. It shows 53-year-old ‘John’, who has COVID-19, inside the ICU unit at St Vincent’s Hospital.
Assisting John is ICU Registered Nurse Shaunagh Whelan.
John has become the human face of Sydney’s coronavirus crisis after permission was granted to film him recovering from the disease. The team here at 7NEWS wish John all the best in his recovery.
There are currently 73 COVID-19 cases being cared for in Sydney hospitals – 19 people are in intensive care, 5 of whom require ventilation.
There have been 929 locally acquired COVID-19 cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in the Bondi cluster was reported.
Of the 65 locally acquired coronavirus cases reported to 8pm last night, 46 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), eight are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, six are from Western Sydney LHD, four are from Sydney LHD, and one is from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD.
