COVID-19: Canada prepares for Delta variant’s rise, as unvaccinated people overwhelm US hospitals

Global News published this video item, entitled “COVID-19: Canada prepares for Delta variant’s rise, as unvaccinated people overwhelm US hospitals” – below is their description.

Despite COVID-19 cases declining across Canada, largely due to the vaccine rollout, the inoculation rate is already plateauing in parts of the country as nearly 20 per cent of the population remains unprotected.

This comes as some provinces see an uptick in infections, as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread. Caryn Lieberman looks at new efforts across the country to ramp up vaccinations even further, as doctors brace for a fourth wave.

Meanwhile, the United States is already facing consequences of the Delta variant as doctors and nurses see an overwhelming resurgence of COVID-19 patients in hospitalizations.

The average number of daily cases in the U.S. is already up more than 170 percent in the past two weeks, to more than 50,000 per day. And as Jackson Proskow reports, a vast majority of hospitalizations still comprise of unvaccinated Americans.
